Bridging the Gap – post 16 transition event

Bridging the Gap – Post 16 transition event
Wednesday 6 July
Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford

Moving onto the next step in education after school can be a big one. Studying at Sixth Form or College is a new learning experience which takes adjustment to get right. At Make Happen we’re here to help with “Bridging the Gap”, a 1-day event held at Anglia Ruskin University’s Chelmsford Campus. Along with our friends at MADE Training, we’ll be offering sessions on study support, motivation, and resilience.

This opportunity is open to 30x Year 10 students from your school. Priority will be given to school groups where a majority of the group are Uni Connect students. In particular, the event is targeted at students who would benefit from learning about the different options for post-16 education and the independent learning skills needed to succeed at this level.

Requirements:

  • 30 x students
  • Year 10
  • High proportion of UniConnect students

If you are interested in registering your students for this event or have any questions, please contact:

Deadline: 10th June

At the event we will be running the following sessions:

MADE – Advanced Note Taking
The transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 is a big shift in the depth of the content and the demands put on the student. Many students struggle with trying to apply the reading and note-taking skills that worked in KS4, but now don’t work so well in KS5. This compact workshop shows your students how to become active readers and how to apply the Cornell Method for taking efficient and effective notes; a technique that will serve them well as they progress on to higher levels of study.

Make Happen – Next Steps, Goals, and Aspirations
How to make the best choices for you. In this session we will explore the different types of qualifications and careers paths you can take to get where you want to be in life. There is no “correct” path, and no “right answer”. We will give your students all the information they need to make informed and confident choices in their education and career paths.

MADE –Inner Winner
Determination is a key attribute sought after by companies and recruiters worldwide. Having determination requires building resilience, which is the ability to bounce back from setbacks rather than giving up. Determination is sometimes referred to as drive: the determination to get things done, to make things happen and to constantly look for ways to improve. This workshop will help your students develop a powerful internal drive and become an ‘Inner Winner’.
