GCSE Booster Programme – Spring 2023

Do you work with a Year 11 student who could benefit from 1:1 online tuition?

Fully funded places for a 6 to 7 week tutoring and skills programme are available now, in a choice of either English, Maths or Science.  The programme will include weekly 1:1 online tutoring sessions provided by MyTutor and an invitation to join Make Happen at a local university on Thursday 13 April.

At Make Happen we are proud to support all students across Essex to achieve their potential, to thrive at FE and progress to Higher Education.  Each student is unique; however we know there are many student groups who are considerably underrepresented in HE.  Eligible students for this GCSE Booster programme should be from any of the following underrepresented groups:

  • Care experienced

  • GTRSB (Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen and Boater communities)

  • Refugee and Asylum seekers

  • Students with Disabilities (SEND)

  • Service children (from Military families)

This is a call to teachers or local authority staff to champion a young person and support them in completing the programme.  This will simply involve:

  • Nominating the student by 8 February
  • Working with Make Happen and MyTutor to complete registration for successful nominations and set a weekly tutor time
  • Checking in with the student to ensure weekly attendance
  • Encouraging the student to independently attend the fun in person session taking place in the Easter holidays (13 April)

Register your interest here ASAP and by Wednesday 8 February , to give your student the best chance of securing a place and completing the programme before the GCSE exam period.

Please note places are limited. This is a pilot programme, which we acknowledge is offered with a short time scale.  We will be continuing our work to support underrepresented students and activity with an increased focused on raising attainment into 2023/24 and will reply to all expressions of interest in this programme.

Please complete the form or contact us to discuss how we can tailor future support to any underrepresented students in your school, college or care.
