Simply contact us by email at info@makehappen.org to let us know which sessions you’d like to access, and how many students will be viewing them (for evaluation purposes), and we’ll send you the link to view the videos.
Apprenticeships (15 minutes)
Years 9-11
Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships
This session aims to increase knowledge surrounding apprenticeships further. Students will be able to understand what employers are looking for and what skills they’ll gain through an apprenticeship. Higher and Degree level apprenticeships and will be shown in a lot more detail, focusing on the differences between higher & degree level and the entry requirements.
Years 12 &13 (20 minutes)
Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships
Within this session students will understand more about the differences between university and higher and degree level apprenticeships, as well as the similarities. They will be given the opportunity to compare in groups.
Preparing for Student life: Money and Finance (52 minutes)
Years 12 &13
This session is suitable for students on a pathway to university, this session will provide guidance on the student finance application process, sources of additional financial support, and how to choose the best student and graduate bank accounts.
Developing Financial Capability (52 minutes)
Years 10-13
This session aims to develop students’ financial capability by introducing them to a range of important financial terms and concepts, such as banking, borrowing, saving and budgeting. Students will be encouraged to consider how they can implement good financial practice into their own lives.
Mind Palace (16 minutes)
Years 9-13
Mind palace is a great way of remembering facts and information. It uses familiarisation and visualisation to attach it to a location = memory journey.
Careers Profile (12 minutes)
Years 9 & 10
Careers and building a careers profile. A brief discussion on how to build a career profile and what the profile is used for.
University Life (17 minutes)
Years 9-11
In this ‘Why Go?’ talk Jordan runs us through all the benefits of studying at higher education and going to university. The financial, social and educational reasons are all covered by Jordan in this informative and insightful presentation.
Post-16 options (46 minutes)
Years 9-11
This session looks at the different options after year 11 including BTECs, A Levels and Apprenticeships including a match-up game. Students then explore the difference between College and Sixth Form and local sixth forms and colleges in the area. Students should be able to research these options including information about the best progression pathways through to specific goals.
Interview Skills (40 minutes)
Years 10-13
The session looks at the process of interviews, the different types of interviews and how best to prepare. Includes examples of interview questions being answered. The video can be paused to allow time for discussion and to give students a chance to practise answering common interview and skills-based questions.
Transferable Skills (10 minutes)
Years 9-11
The session looks at what transferable skills are, why they are important for future applications and how students can showcase their own skills with examples.
Years 12 & 13 (12 minutes)
The session looks at what transferable skills are, why they are important for future applications and how students can showcase them in a personal statement and cover letter. The video can be paused to allow time for discussion.
Introduction to UCAS (30 minutes)
Years 12 & 13
This session will outline the information available on the UCAS website, its search functions and how to go about applying to university and what happens after results day.
You and Your Future: The Perfect Fit (43 minutes)
Years 12 & 13
An introduction to the ideas of Core Values and Personality Preference and ideas on how to explore them. The Session also invites participants to think about how these ides relate to career and study choices.
CVs and Covering Letters (20 minutes)
Years 12 & 13
Students will identify purpose and contents of CV’s and cover letters. Students will learn tips and tricks for writing a professional C.V. and cover letter in order to ‘wow’ prospective apprenticeship providers or employers, avoiding common mistakes that often lead to applications being overlooked. Students will also examine job specifications and learn how to demonstrate they meet the essential criteria.
