Profiting from Jalal’s finance workshop

In December 2019 Jalal Pour, Make Happen collaborative outreach officer, delivered the first in a series of new Make Happen workshops to help students develop useful life skills.

Banks

The new workshop, Developing Financial Capability, was delivered to a class of 30 Year 9 students at Grays Convent High School. The session covered topics including banking basics, how to save and pros and cons of borrowing, and finished with a game of banking bingo!

Jalal said: “The workshop aims to develop students’ financial capability by introducing them to important financial terms and concepts, as well as encouraging them to implement good financial practices into their own lives. These are really important skills that will help students make good financial decisions now and in the future.”

The workshop was well-received and students applied the concepts discussed to practical scenarios straightaway. During the spring term Jalal will return to Grays Convent High School to deliver the workshop to the rest of the year group.
